Everyday Care - More detail will be available in our puppy care
booklet should you adopt a puppy through us.
Diet - It is very important that your Coton is fed a high quality dog
food. This is essential to the health and wellbeing of your
companion.
Exercise - Exercise is just as important for your Coton as it is for
you. They are prone to the same health issues as people. Brisk
walks, once puppy is 3 to 4 months old, will stimulate heart rate
and build muscle. Speed and distance may be increased as dog get
older. Playing and running in your yard are also sufficient forms of
exercise, under supervision of course.
Grooming - The Coton's beautiful fur must be brushed and combed
several times per week, preferably every day or they get matted.
Ensure you brush every hair while pulling down pieces. This is a
special bonding time, and you want to make sure it is not painful.
Most Cotons enjoy grooming time. When they are transitioning
between puppy coat and adult coat, they must be brushed more
frequently. It is a good habit to brush them everyday.
Bathing - Bathing should be done about every two to three weeks.
Clean fur does not mat as easily as dirty fur. Make sure you
always brush before bathing and ensure any mats are removed. We
use Plush Puppy products and like it so much that we also sell it.
Nails - must be cut frequently.
Teeth - should be brushed daily.
Ear Cleaning - They should be kept clean with a cotton ball, and
an ear powder or liquid cleaner for dogs.
